Well people, it’s officially summer break. It doesn’t feel real quite yet, [even being able to sleep in without an alarm this morning], but I can’t wait to patio sit with Ace & get some projects done.
I kicked off my summer break celebration with an amazing recipe for last night’s dinner. It was the perfect mix of refreshing & filling. I’m hoping the I eat healthy food, [which we do already, but I’m going to really try to bulk it up this summer], the more I’ll stop craving things like Doritos & mac n’ cheese. It’ll work, right?
Anyway, my recipe last night was a new one I tried from skinnytaste.com. I changed it a bit from the original, but man was it good! You can find my full recipe under my greens tab, here.
Usually, on the first day of summer break I get super anxious. It’s weird, it’s supposed to be the most relaxing day; I’m finally done with grading, planning, disciplining, crafting, etc… But I can NEVER let myself relax. Once summer break hits, I have so many idea and lists I want to accomplish over the next couple months that I can’t seem to shut my brain off.
So, today, I started small. I woke up, took a walk with Ace, [before it got too hot – it’s supposed to be over 90 today!], ate some breakfast and made my June list. I tried to keep my list small and doable, yet enough to feel like I was using my first month off well. Some list occupants:
- Make summer appointments; blood draws, dermatologist, dentist, etc…
- Organizational tasks; re-organize teaching materials, clean out closet, organize basement bins, etc…
- House projects; paint lower bathroom, redo laundry room, paint upstairs hallway, etc…
There’s always A LOT I want to get done, this list doesn’t cover half of other June tasks. I have realized though, by making these lists early, I feel like I have a purpose in the summer. I’m not just sitting around, sleeping in, acting like a bum. However, there are days that sneakily get away from me and that’s exactly what Ace and I do 🙂
We have a couple great things planned over the next couple weekends, as well.
Father’s Day celebrations this weekend with my family – Patio hoppin’ around breweries with my dad and sisters is going to be amazing.
Our FIVE year anniversary is next Sunday, [on Father’s Day, hence why we’re celebrating early], and Tony booked a mini vacation for us in Denver. I can’t wait. I will be spending my free time next week looking up restaurants and happenings to attend.
I started organizing a yard game bbq for our friends in a couple Saturdays. Tony’s wanted to have one FOREVER, so I caved, and I’m pretty excited myself. I have a giant wooden dice set, a large Jenga set, a bags set, & bocci ball. Hopefully the weather will cooperate for us.
This month is also about being present, being in the moment, take each day by day, & for me to enjoy my couple months off with my husband and pup. Which may seem hypocritical with all the lists given previously, but overall, this is my number one goal for the month.
Cheers to Friday! Off I go to begin organizing my never-ending bins of teaching supplies ;0)
