Happy Sunday!
The past couple weekends have brought some really fun memories and projects; Ace’s third birthday & planting veggies in my first garden.
Ace’s third birthday was a special one; it was the first birthday that Tony was around to celebrate. [Don’t roll your eyes, Ace is our fur baby, and it’s important we’re together as a family on birthdays]. We decided to hang out on the patio, grill some brats, serve some veggies & dip, & invite our families over to us help celebrate.
Before the rest of the party goers graced us with their presence, Ace got to enjoy some bubble chasing. I don’t know if you’ve read in previous posts, but this guy LOVES chasing his bubbles.
The way Ace chases his bubbles always reminds me of the simple pleasures in life. Watching him and his bubbles, make me remember the simplest things, that make me so happy; a great, smooth writing pen, a clean house with a candle lit, snuggling in bed in the morning when it rains, anything salted caramel… I could go on.
I caught some great shots of his bubble chasing for your viewing pleasure:
Ace was a very happy camper. He was spoiled with a lot of new toys, yummy treats, & lots of kisses. He’s been such a good companion for Tony & I; he really deserved to be spoiled every minute of his special day.

Now, moving to my latest project: my first veggie garden.
I’ve wanted to start a garden since my diagnosis, but the task always seemed so daunting, and for someone who is NOT known to have a green thumb, I was always so scared that I would never get anything to grow. Tony and I eat tons of fruits and vegetables, however, and it always made sense for us to have a space for our own greens, so this weekend, I put my mind to getting one started!
For starters, I knew I needed a simple planter box. I was going to start small, and I didn’t want something that was, again, going to scare me away from wanting to continue gardening. I settled on a raised planter box from Target, [my grandpa was originally going to build one for me, but his vision and mine were very different: mine was small, whereas his was very BIG].
To plant, I decided on cucumbers, zucchinis, and sweet green peppers. I also bought a potted, patio tomato, which I am going to love, but didn’t want to this to take up space in the planter, [it was already so limited]. I also bought one sugar snap pea plant to plant separately, and I really hope I can get keep it kickin’.
I also started growing herbs on my bathroom windowsill back in March; one started growing, one didn’t, [see! Not great at this whole process], but I wanted to add to that collection. So, this weekend, I also planted lavender, basal, cilantro, and mint.
Yesterday and today Minnesota delivered the most beautiful weather – high 70’s with a nice breeze – so Ace and I cranked some Bob Marley on the back patio, and we started our garden.
I can’t wait [hopefully] to go outside at some point this summer, pick a couple zucchinis & peppers, and whip up something tasty to eat.
Back when I first starting blogging, I was in the hunt for a hobby. I hope gardening turns into one of those hobbies I have been searching to find. It is a hobby I can perfect, a hobby that is healthy, and a hobby that could possibly have a calming presence on my mind.
I have felt proud of the flowers I have kept alive for the past month or so, [yes, a month… but it’s something], and looking across my patio tonight, I was quite pleased with what I’ve accomplished so far.
Like I’ve said within most of my posts, I’m getting there, slowly, but I’m getting there.
Off to snuggle with Ace, xo
