It’s super bowl Sunday & I’ll probably be in bed by 7 ๐
This weekend brought a whirlwind of exciting events, events that truly touched my heart & left me smiling. On Friday I surprised Tony with a Vegas trip with his best friends for his 30th birthday, and on Saturday I had a baby shower at my house for one of my best friends. Sit back, relax, and let me tell you a couple stories, while I veg out on the couch this Sunday afternoon….
Tony’s surprise Vegas trip was planned back in October. I sent a couple text messages out to his closest friends, getting feelers out to see if a trip like this was doable, [duh, it’s Vegas, of course it was doable for a handful of guys], and the plans were set in motion. They would be leaving on Friday morning and returning Monday, after super bowl Sunday, and Tony could not know.
It was the longest four months of my life. There were multiple times I almost burst & let the secret explode out of me, ruining everything. When we would meet groups of friends, my breathing would become more rapid, and I would cross my fingers that a simple comment wouldn’t slip out of anybody’s mouth about the upcoming Vegas travels. The secret almost crept out of my mouth just last weekend, when Tony and I were cleaning our basement for the fake party we planned of bowling and games, because I just DID NOT WANT TO CLEAN.
But nothing slipped. And as I secretly packed his bag Thursday night, I prayed and prayed again that he really didn’t know anything of his Vegas surprise. We woke up on Friday morning, went to breakfast, I blindfolded him, and off we drove to the airport, [or to try curling, as Tony thought].
As we pulled up to the airport drop off, his friends stood waiting with their phones out, ready to capture the moment, and I told Tony to slowly take off his blindfold. The look on his face was priceless, [it actually makes my stomach butterflies go crazy just thinking about it again]. He couldn’t wrap his head around the fact that we were at the airport and that he would be taking a trip with his best friends. he was flustered, shaking, and even got a little teary eyed, [he probably wouldn’t want me sharing that little tid-bit, but it is what made the surprise to special].
It was the most wonderful feeling I think I’ve ever experienced. The amount of surprise, joy, and overflowing emotion he felt was infectious. I couldn’t help but feel giddy and excited as I watched him walk off with his best friends to one of the greatest places to watch the super bowl. It was a moment I’ll never forget.
On Saturday morning, I had another wonderful event: I co-hosted a baby shower for one of my best friends.
A little boy is expected to arrive in April and it has been so much fun to watch my friend prepare to become a mother. I’ve helped pick the nursery room color, shopped for the cutest onesies, bought a beautiful baby book, and already call myself an aunt. Katie and her husband are going to be two of the most wonderful parents & I’m so glad I’m a part of their lives and their baby’s life.
Off I go to plan, grade, and maybe make myself a chip dip for the super bowl ๐
