day 7 – shooting manually

the in-between

DSC_0015Usually Wednesday blog posts are wordless; however, I want to stay true to my January challenge. Wordless Wednesday will return in February.

Today, mother nature dropped Minnesota’s temps to a degree no human should have to endure. I know this is winter, in Minnesota, and temps should be expected to dip below zero, but capping off at -45 degrees, (with windchill), is a joke. It has left both Ace & I grumpy, stuck inside, & still cold.

School was cancelled & I guess I got out ahead of myself yesterday by cleaning the whole house. Today I am left with one load of laundry & floors that are still glistening with disinfectant. So, I pulled out my camera and started playing. {Do adults still play? Sure.}

This summer I blogged about trying to find a hobby, (you can find those posts here & here).  I wanted to pursue photography, and to learn how to shoot with a DSLR camera. This hobby will benefit Tony & I in all stages of life – the ability to shoot friends, family, & one day, maybe children, would be fantastic. I want to decorate my house with black and whites; photos I have taken myself, on canvas, wood, and on just regular old paper. I plan on taking a class sometime this year on how to better these skills, but in the meantime, just messing around with the camera myself I will slowly learn some basic tricks.

Today was one step down a new path. I want to continue to put myself out there, discover who I am, what I enjoy, & choose my own; my own life, likes, dislikes, & everything in between. Poor Ace; he had to endure my camera in his face for a good hour. There’s a lot to think about shooting manually – messing with aperture and shutter speed to get the shot perfect. And when I say poor Ace:  this dog was lounging in front of our fire, on a plush blanket, with a full belly of treats; he has it so rough 🙂

Step out of your comfort zone. Give yourself time to figure out what makes you click. Maybe you already know, or maybe you need to put yourself out there – what will you do today to better your future? What will you do today to better yourself?

Cheers! xo
