bubbles.
Who knew my afternoons would now be spent blowing bubbles; for a dog.
An average morning conversation (is it considered a conversation with a dog?) with Ace:
Ace: staring at bubble container on table.
Me: “Ace, do you want to go blow bubbles outside?”
Ace: major wiggle butt, whining barking at the sliding door off of the kitchen, all the while looking back at the bubble container that I’m now holding in my hand.
Me: slide on flip flops and open the sliding door for the excited, wiggly-butt Vizsla.
Ace: sprints out sliding door into the middle of the yard, jumping and barking, sprinting in anticipation for his bubbles.
Me: follows the crazed Vizsla and proceed to blowing bubbles in the yard for him to catch.
I tell you what, if dogs could smile, Ace is constantly smiling while there are bubbles in the air. There is rarely a bubble that lands on the ground!
I also have to admit, I’m somewhat of a baby. I tear up over the silliest things – seeing an elderly couple holding hands, a new mother holding her baby, the “Run Like a Girl” commercial that’s all over facebook; I’m a big ol’ sap.
Watching Ace chase bubbles for the first time was no exception. I teared up! It was somewhat emotional to see how happy he was chasing something as simple as bubbles! I tried thinking of things that bring me as much joy as bubbles bring him, and at first thought, I didn’t come up with much – now keep in mind I’m trying to think of SIMPLE things.
Upon further reflection, I did come up with my top five simple pleasures that leave me smiling when I lay my head upon my pillow:
- sleeping in on a Saturday morning; especially if there’s a thunderstorm booming outside our window
- when my US Weekly comes in the mail every Friday – really any particle of mail can have the same affect
- a good dinner conversation
- a soothing Bon Iver song playing on Pandora
- the first day of school! My students are just about the cutest; nervous, excited, etc…
MOST of these simple pleasures involve Tony – that goes without saying 🙂
Take time today to reflect on the simple things in life that bring you joy. What are they? Soak them in.
